Triple Celebration at Las Dalias: Four Decades of the Mercadillo, 15 Issues of Las Dalias Ibiza & Formentera Magazine, and the Presentation of the 8th Las Dalias International Short Story Award

Sant Carles, June 16, 2025.— The Akasha Room at Las Dalias will host next Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m., the presentation of issue number 15 of Las Dalias Ibiza & Formentera Magazine, in an event that will also celebrate the four decades of the most famous Mercadillo (market) in Ibiza and where the 8th Las Dalias International Short Story Award will be presented. This year, the award goes to Andalusian writer Antonio Tocornal for his story The Memory of Fingers.

The great Las Dalias family gathers once again under the theme Our Roots, Our Future, looking back at its history while also envisioning what the coming decades may bring.

Juan Marí, also known as Juanito de Las Dalias and the person responsible for the Mercadillo, will remember—together with Helga Watson-Todd (co-founder)—how this thrilling story began in 1985. A story no one could have imagined, one that gave new meaning to this place, which in fact began in 1954 as a bar and restaurant founded by Juan Marí Juan.

The 356-page magazine features contributions from notable writers such as Sonsoles Ónega, Antonio Colinas, Ben Clark, Helena Tur, and Toni Montserrat, along with reports by Pablo Sierra del Sol, Lina Sansano, Felip Cirer, Carmen Pi, Silvia Castillo, Samaj Moreno, Begoña Márquez, and Laura Ferrer Arambarri.

The articles are accompanied by carefully curated visuals, with images by Arsen Voronyy, Vicente Luis Marí, Vitorino, Phrank, José Salto, and the Las Dalias archive, along with illustrations by renowned artists Marcos Torres, Untaltoni, and José Ramón Lapuerta.

This issue includes two surprises: the first installment of Las Dalias Around The World, a traveling and solidarity project aimed at uncovering the origins of many products sold at the Mercadillo; and a fashion editorial for the first time starring the designers, artisans, vendors, and Las Dalias team themselves—coordinated by Isabel Lambour and Diana Pintado.

During the event, the 8th Las Dalias International Short Story Award will be officially presented. This edition’s jury included writers Maribel Andrés Llamero and Alberto de la Rocha; the magazine’s editor-in-chief Laura Ferrer Arambarri, and Ben Clark, writer and contest coordinator.
